Throughout his international cricket career, Virender Sehwag has encountered numerous turning points, each of which was characterised by periods of banishment that were followed by resolute returns to the team.

The former Indian opener has assumed the role of host for Rise & Fall Season 2, a program that delves into the narratives of triumph and adversity. The program will commence on September 26, 2026, and will be available for free streaming on Prime Video and the MX Player Android app. New episodes will be released daily at 12:00 p.m. IST for a 42-day period.

Sehwag succeeds Ashneer Grover, who served as the presenter of the inaugural season. Sehwag has opened up about the pattern of falls and recoveries that characterised his playing career in his discussions of his own experiences with professional setbacks.

Early career setbacks and the path to recovery

In 1999, the opener made his début for the international team, scoring 104 runs in his first Test match. In that match, Sachin Tendulkar was batting alongside him and scored 155. His resolve as a young player was put to the test when he was removed from the squad following his initial success. In 2001, his return initiated a more consistent period within the team; however, additional obstacles were to be encountered.

Virender Sehwag encountered an additional period of time outside the Indian team from 2006 to 2007.

The exclusion continued throughout the 2007-2008 England tour, which was a significant series that he was unable to attend. Virender Sehwag utilised the time away from his career to enhance his physical fitness and prepare for a prospective return, rather than accepting it as the conclusion of his career.

Lessons learned and partnerships with Sachin Tendulkar

Virender Sehwag  established substantial partnerships with Tendulkar, his senior and mentor in the Indian batting lineup, over the course of his career. Throughout their tenure with the team, the two batsmen collaborated on numerous double-century partnerships and century stands. Sehwag acknowledged Tendulkar’s influence on him during his initial years in international cricket.

While employed in the Indian Premier League, Virender Sehwag accepted the hosting opportunity. After reviewing the Amazon Prime team’s clips and presentations, he was approached to host the program. His conviction in the position was bolstered by his experience as an IPL commentator.
