Muneeba Ali, a wicketkeeper-batsman, has been named captain of Pakistan’s women’s team for the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy, which will be held in Ajman, UAE, in November 2026. The ten-team competition begins on November 12, and Pakistan’s preparations will begin with the squad arriving in Lahore on November 6 for a three-day training camp from November 7 to 9, after which the team will depart for the UAE.
Regular skipper Fatima Sana has been left out of the competition due to her WBBL commitments with the Perth Scorchers, which coincide with the event. With Sana absent, Muneeba Ali takes over leadership for the second time in 2026. Her maiden stint at the helm occurred during Pakistan’s T20I tour of Sri Lanka in July, while Sana was abroad representing Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred.
The event also marks Muneeba’s return to the Pakistani team.
She had been absent from the Asian Games squad for personal reasons, thus her selection in this 14-member group represents a big comeback. Ayesha Zafar, a batter, has been selected vice-captain for the Ajman assignment.
Which players have been left out or recalled relative to previous squads?
The 14-member group assembled for the Emerging Nations Trophy is mainly influenced by the combination that represented Pakistan at the Women’s Asia Cup, which was held soon before the Asian Games. However, two Asian Games players, all-rounder Aliya Riaz and pacer Humna Bilal, have been dropped from the squad.
In contrast, two players who competed in the Women’s Asia Cup but were not selected for the Asian Games have been reinstated. Waheeda Akhtar and Sadaf Shamas have been summoned and will fly to Ajman with the team. Except for Sana’s absence, the rest of the squad roughly resembles the Asia Cup combination that preceding the Asian Games.
